IN MEMORY AND HONOR OF MY FATHER
ROBERT (BOB) TODD
February 3, 1920 to January 20, 2002
A Devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather
My father passed away January 20, 2002 in Orting, Washington at the age of 81. Born February 3, 1920 in Glendive, Montana. He was retired from the United States Army where he had served his country for 27 years. He is survived by: his wife, Donna of Puyallup, Washington; 3 sons, Richard of Phoenix, Arizona, Billy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kevin of Tacoma, Washington; and 2 daughters, Jeffry Anne of Puyallup, Washington, and Linda (myself) of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 2 nephews. He was laid to rest at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetary with full military honors.
I was able to spend 2 months with my father before his death. I will NEVER forget that time and thank God for giving me the chance to be with him. We spent many days working on scrapbooks which he loved to do. And reminiscing his life. Dad was a brittle diabetic and had developed gangrene in both his feet. His biggest dilemma was whether he wanted to have both his legs amputated. He changed his mind many times but then finally decided against the surgery. The doctor had given him only 60 days to live and that would have been up Christmas week. After my return home New Years Eve Dad began to go downhill fast. One day he finally made up his mind... he was born with two legs and was going to die with two legs. He'd have no surgery.
Dad had a hard life the past 17 years. In 1985 he received a flu shot and developed Gullian-Barre` syndrome. This syndrome causes paralysis from the waist down, but only lasts for about six weeks. Dad's paralysis never went away. He spent the next 17 years in a wheelchair and eventually bedridden, taken care of by his loving and devoted wife, Donna...my mother. It was because of mom's care that he lived as long as he did. You couldn't ask for a more devoted wife then my mother.
